Build server stops suddenly and frequently

I have a TFS 2010 instance in which suddenly (and frequently) the build controller stops responding. When I look into the properties of the build controller and press Test Connection, I get the following error:

The controller status has been changed by the Team Foundation Server at MyMachine
Reason: There was no endpoint listening at http://MyMachine:9191/Build/v3.0/Services/Controller/10 that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.

It turns out to be in my situation that the Application Tier could not connect to the Build Server. When executing the “ping MyBuildServer” command it returned an incorrect IP address. In my case it turned out that I had a duplicate entry in the DHCP server for the Build Server. Removing the duplicate entry solved the issue.

I a second occurance my local machine was joined to the corp domain, but not connected to the domain. Because the endpoint of the Build Service was registered with full name (being mymachine.mydomain), it was not able to connect. removing the mydomain from the endpoint did this time the trick.
